1949: Founded by Everett Hull (Ampeg Bassamp Co.) in New York. 1962: First instrument: The Baby Bass 1963: Line of guitars and basses built by Burns of London and imported to the US for about two years. They are labelled "Ampeg by Burns of London". 1966: Own line of basses. Some (AEB-1, designed by Dennis Kager) are built in Japan. 1969: Until 1971, contracted with Dan Armstrong for the production of lucite guitars and basses. 1972: Until 1975, Ampeg imports the Stud series from Japan. 1978: Partnership with Hagstrom to design and build a guitar synth, the Patch 2000. Apparently never got in production. 1980: Ampeg shuts down production. 1997: Ampeg re-introduces guitar and bass models, ancient and new ones. 2001: Models discontinued. 2005: US built Dan Armstrong guitar is re-offered.
